3 Cases
Three cases were filed before the Regulatory Tribunal in 2021. Five judgments were issued throughout the year, two relating to appeals against decisions of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority, two relating to appeals against decisions of the Employment Standards Office, and one relating to an appeal against a decision of the Qatar Financial Centre Authority. Judgments
Nigel Thomas Howard Perera v Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority [2021] QIC (RT) 6
The Regulatory Tribunal (Sir William Blair, Chairman, Justices Subramanium and Al-Marzouqi) allowed an appeal in part against a decision notice issued by the respondent, reducing the financial penalty imposed upon the appellant from QAR 273,000 to QAR 136,500.
PowerGlobe LLC v Qatar Financial Centre Authority [2021] QIC (RT) 5
The Regulatory Tribunal (Sir William Blair, Chairman, Justices Glasgow QC and Hagan) dismissed the company's appeal against a decision of the Authority withdrawing the company's license. In dismissing the appeal, the Tribunal observed that the company had failed to comply with the Tribunal's earlier directions and had offered no reasonable excuse for the failure.
Nazim Omara v Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority [2021] QIC (RT) 4
The Regulatory Tribunal (Sir William Blair, Chairman, Justices Li SC and Al Marzouqi) lifted a stay previously imposed on the proceedings in light of concurrent criminal proceedings which had since concluded.
International Financial Services (Qatar) LLC v QFC Employment Standards Office [2021] QIC (RT) 2
The Regulatory Tribunal (Sir William Blair, Chairman, Justices Li and Al Marzouqi) dismissed two appeals filed against determinations of the Employment Standards Office which had found that, contrary to the QFC Employment Regulations, two former employees of the company had been dismissed on account of whistleblowing.
