Summary

In a case before the Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court Appellate Division, Khadija Al-Marhoon sued Ooredoo Group Company for unlawful dismissal. The First Instance Circuit had awarded her QAR 509,679 in damages. The appeal, heard by Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, Justice Sir William Blair, and Justice Dr. Rashid Al-Anezi, reduced this amount to QAR 264,342 plus interest. The court found that Ooredoo had grounds for dismissal due to unauthorized absence but ruled the dismissal unfair because Ooredoo did not offer a disciplinary hearing as required by their policies and the QFC Employment Regulations 2020.
