Summary
The Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court issued a ruling on May 1, 2023, regarding an application to appoint an arbitrator in a dispute between two companies not established within the Qatar Financial Centre. The dispute centered on a discrepancy in the Arabic and English versions of the Law of Arbitration in Civil and Commercial Matters. The Court determined that the Arabic version prevails and that the default court is the Court of Appeal of the State of Qatar unless both parties agree otherwise. As no such agreement was reached, jurisdiction remains with the Court of Appeal. The note was issued to maintain arbitration confidentiality.
